Graham holds a BA (Hons) in architecture from Manchester University, specialising in pre-cast concrete for his last 3 years. He became a registered chartered architect in 1969 and established his own practice in 1982 winning and completing a number of different construction projects including factories, universities, schools, hospitals, housing, MOD and other marine associated applications.Graham was also involved as an expert witness in construction disputes for over 30 years. Eventually retiring in 2002, he continued to stay busy in other capacities, becoming the president of the faculty of building in 2004 – 2006 and a governor of Plymouth College of Art 2002 – 2012.
